‘Oceans of innovation’ at local level
Connect’s Lucy Holbrook hears from local government leaders at the LGiU gathering in Westminster
28 October 2011
Yesterday Connect hosted the LGiU’s annual policy summit ‘Localism and Austerity’, an event which brought together leading local authorities, charities and private sector providers to debate the impact of localism to date and consider the shape of public service delivery to come.
During the summit, Hilary Benn gave his first speech as Shadow Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government. He vowed to stand up for local government and praised the great work that goes on at local level. His claim that local government has always been “an ocean of innovation” went down well with the audience.
LGiU Chief Executive Andy Sawford, who chaired the summit, has written a very insightful blog into the day’s events which is available here.
