Policing and Justice
Restoring Public Confidence

APA Policy Conference
Wednesday 9th September 2009
Royal Geographic Society, Central London
Raising public confidence is the biggest challenge facing policing in the UK today.
Crime is down 32 per cent. Burglary is down 55 per cent. Vehicle crime is down 52 per cent. Paradoxically, the public do not seem convinced, with only 47% believing their police force and council are dealing with the crime and anti-social behaviour issues that matter to them.
This APA-hosted conference will bring together leading representatives from policing, community safety and criminal justice agencies to debate what must be done to improve public accountability, drive up confidence and deliver genuine improvements in public perceptions.
This essential policy conference will help delegates to:
- better understand the needs of their communities
- recognise the goals of other agencies and the value of partnerships
- work collaboratively to deliver shared outcomes
- improve information provision for communities
- examine models for improved accountability and share best practice
- consider the implications of the forthcoming White Paper
